Uzbekistan

It is believed that the land of Uzbekistan has been inhabited for thousands of years and was once an important part of the ancient Silk Road. Great cities such as Samarkand and Bukhara grew into major centres of trade, culture, and learning, connecting East and West. Many legends tell of powerful rulers and merchants who travelled through the region, though there is no single founding myth for the country.

However, Uzbekistan then was not a unified nation but a collection of kingdoms, city-states, and trading settlements. Most people relied on farming, craftsmanship, and trade for their livelihood. It was only later, through various empires and eventually Soviet rule, that the region became unified and developed into the modern nation of Uzbekistan.
